Fan of Fanoon is a play on the Arabic words ‘fan/fanoon’ meaning art/s. This blog is a collection of writings on contemporary art and culture from the Middle East and North Africa written by Aimee Dawson. Aimee studied Arabic and Middle East Studies at the University of Exeter and holds a Masters in Contemporary Art and Art Theory of Asia and Africa from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), London. She is currently the Partnerships and Special Projects Manager at Ibraaz, the leading critical forum on visual culture in North Africa and the Middle East, and the Editorial Assistant at The Art Newspaper. In 2016, she project managed the publication of the book, Future Imperfect: Contemporary Art Practices and Cultural Institutions in the Middle East and edited the accompanying online project series. She was the Writer-in-Residence for Shubbak Festival 2015 and the Guest Blogger for Nour Festival of Arts 2015.
